ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION

Founded in 2004, Build Change is a non‐profit social enterprise whose mission is to save lives in earthquakes and hurricanes. Build Change designs disaster-resistant houses and schools, trains homeowners, builders, engineers and government officials to build them, works with governments to develop and implement building standards, partners with the private sector to improve building materials quality and create jobs, and facilitates access to incentive-based capital for reconstruction and retrofitting by partnering with financing institutions and government subsidy programs. Build Change started its work in Aceh, Indonesia after the 2004 earthquake and tsunami and has since expanded to include programs in China, Haiti, Colombia, Guatemala, Nepal, and the Philippines. Build Change has trained more than 23,000 people on earthquake-resistant design and construction techniques, created more than 11,000 jobs and provided technical assistance for more than 47,000 safer buildings, impacting an estimated 236,875 people.

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Ensure effective Information and Communications Technology environment and functioning of services and equipment as per organizational Procedures.

Apply base of technical, operational, process or project skills to identify opportunities for process improvement, lead portions of projects or processes, and bring new knowledge into the organization.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Installing any new software packages that Build Change may purchase
  • Install configure and troubleshoot various services in Linux operating system (Debian 8) such as Samba and  PostgreSQL.
  • Install printer and scanner drivers on all laptops.
  • 24/7 support service and troubleshooting for networking, WIFI and internet problems.
  • Install and configure Autodesk, MS Office suite and Email software.
  • Calibration of a server for instant backup and file sharing, of Debian OS
  • Determination of server machine hardware specifications.
  • Installing software upgrades in a timely manner.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree in IT/Computer/ Electronics and communication or related field
  • At least 2 years of progressive working experience in managing and implementing information systems and supporting technologies
  • Good planning and coordinating skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently under time pressure
  • Strong communication, analytical, reporting and organizational skills
  • Familiar with Database  (Postgresql, Mysql and BI tools,  a plus)
  • Knowledge of GIS and web development would be an added advantage
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
