WHO WE ARE
Founded in 2004, Build Change is an innovative international non‐profit social enterprise whose mission is to save lives in earthquakes and hurricanes. We do that by designing disaster-resistant houses and schools; training homeowners, builders, engineers and government officials to build them; working with governments to develop and implement building standards; partnering with the private sector to improve building materials quality and create jobs; and facilitating access to incentive-based capital for reconstruction and retrofitting by partnering with financing institutions and government subsidy programs.

YOUR NEW OPPORTUNITY
Build Change is seeking to hire a consultant for an anticipated Building Resiliency Research Study to explore existing activities, challenges, and gaps in policy, finance, and technology for climate-resilient buildings in the Philippines.

Scope of Work:

• Complete a desk review of existing studies and data relevant to climate resilient buildings;
• Identify and conduct interviews with key stakeholders, to include representatives from national and local government, building owners, private sector developers, builders, engineers, designers and non-profit organizations who work in disaster risk reduction in the built environment;
• Manage primary data collection, through virtual and/or in-person stakeholder meetings, interviews and surveys; and
• Contribute to the final written report that includes an overview of the relevant building codes and enabling legal framework with emphasis on considerations for climate resilience, an analysis of findings from the desk study and stakeholder consultations showing trends, gaps and challenges, and key recommendations, partnerships and opportunities for potential IFC investment.

OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE

You have:

• knowledge/familiarity with Philippine building codes, standards, design and construction guidance, and building construction financing and policy
• understanding of resilient construction practices, particularly design for typhoons and earthquakes

Your experience includes:

• design, construction or retrofitting of buildings, and/or qualitative research

You would describe yourself as:

• optimistic, flexible, humble, patient, and having a good sense of humor
• fluent in English

And maybe you also:

• have worked in the Caribbean, Latin America, Asia or emerging nations
• speak Tagalog or any of the languages spoken in our program countries
