WHO WE ARE

Founded in 2004, Build Change is a nonprofit social innovator whose goal is to reduce human and economic losses caused by the collapse of homes and schools in disasters. We work in both post-disaster and prevention contexts, putting the power in the hands of homeowners to strengthen their homes and achieve greater resilience in the face of earthquakes and climate-related events, such as hurricanes, floods and fires. Likewise, we work together with governments, financial institutions and the construction sector to support scalability and long-term sustainability. For more than two decades, we have been driving policy change, unlocking access to finance, and innovating through construction and digital technologies to make more than 1 million people safer, create tens of thousands of jobs and promote changes in housing systems worldwide.

Today, Build Change is the global leader and advocate for disaster-resilient housing and winner of major awards for social entrepreneurship and innovation (Skoll Foundation, Schwab Foundation, Ashoka, Draper Richards Kaplan and Echoing Green). We are an active member of the UN Race to Resilience and the Global Resilient Housing Programme, which we launched with the World Bank in 2017, and we also regularly participate in global forums such as the UN Conference of the Parties (COP), World Economic Forum and the G7. We have worked in 26 countries and are currently active in Asia, East Africa, the Middle East, Latin America and the Caribbean. Learn more at www.buildchange.org.
