CONSULTING SERVICES DESCRIPTION:

Construction Technical Supervisor, for Housing Rehabilitation – Sint Maarten

This position reports to the Project Manager with technical direction from the Project Architect and Project Engineer.

YOUR NEW OPPORTUNITY

The Construction Technical Supervisor shall work closely with the Project Engineer, Project Architect, and ESHS Specialist to support construction supervision work, including mostly on-site observation, inspection and documentation of existing conditions and construction works, and support to quantity surveying and estimating. This position will support one project that involves supervision of post-disaster housing reconstruction in Sint Maarten. Build Change previously performed evaluations and developed the construction documents for this work, which is to be performed by a qualified general contractor. The work included structural rehabilitation, and associated architectural work (interior and exterior details, doors/windows, waterproofing details/materials/methods, fixtures & finishes, electrical, plumbing).

Build Change will be providing project management and technical and environmental, social, health and safety (ESHS) supervision activities during the work for the client. The project is expected to run for approximately ten months, and the position consists of site inspections, reporting and coordination with the Project Architect and Project Engineer.


Responsibilities:

  • Review and become familiar with the project design documentation.
  • Assist the team in implementing project-specific supervision services, including mostly on-site observation, inspection and documentation of existing conditions and construction works, including some ESHS components, and support to quantity surveying and estimating.
  • Provide support to design solutions as needed.
  • Coordinate your field activities with the Build Change project team, contractor and others as needed.
  • Become comfortable reviewing construction works and follow up actions with the contractor in the field.
  • Follow Build Change’s construction site safety policies and project ESHS requirements.

 

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Educational background in civil/structural engineering, architecture, construction management or related field.
  • Experience in civil/structural engineering, architecture, building construction management and/or a related field. Work experience in construction supervision, field inspection, quantity estimating is a plus.
  • Experience in construction drawing development/reading.
  • Computer literacy. Experience using Office tools. Experience with Revit is a plus.
  • Solid problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to communicate clearly with people of different educational backgrounds is essential.
  • No ego, drama, or pessimism; the successful candidate will be flexible, humble, patient, and have a good sense of humor.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English required. Proficiency in other regional languages such as Dutch, French, or Spanish would be a plus.
