Build Change’s policy advocates, lending partners, engineers, builders, and coders are providing urgently needed housing solutions in the world’s most disaster-prone countries. It is time to position disaster-resilient housing more prominently on resilience, climate, COVID-19, and racial justice agendas.

Build Change...

  • works with governments and development banks to develop and implement housing policies and building standards,
  • innovates with microfinance partners to develop and deploy loan financing for home improvement,
  • uses BIM, AI, apps and other technology to collect and share information on safe construction and design safe buildings,
  • partners with the private sector to build housing design and construction capacity.

Build Change is the recipient of multiple awards, including a 2017 Skoll Foundation Award for Social Entrepreneurship, OpenIDEO Urban Resilience Challenge Winner, and was a top three finalist in IBM’s inaugural Call for Code Developer Challenge in 2018.

YOUR NEW OPPORTUNITY
The Associate Director, Global Advocacy increases Build Change’s visibility and elevates disaster-resilient housing on global and US development agendas.

What you’ll do:

  • Build relationships. Expand Build Change’s growing coalitions and grow partnerships with funders, implementers, and advocates for disaster-resilient housing.
  • Attend events and host events. Attend Resilient Housing and related events around the world, and launch and hold Build Change advocacy convenings.
  • Write outstanding advocacy pieces. Work with our team to draft opinions, advocacy pieces, fact sheets, position papers, and talking points for Build Change team and associated institutions and partners, and get them published and circulated.
  • Research relevant topics, policies, and influential people and track leads and ideas.
  • Support and elevate our in-country teams. Amplify their work and support them by packaging and sharing their remarkable results, lessons, and tools.
  • Provide two writing samples (of advocacy pieces, fact sheets, or position papers) as part of this application process. 

Skills you possess:

  • Proven advocacy track record. You’ve influenced policy and funder direction.
  • Ability to bring people together. You’re a natural consortium builder and fearless networker.
  • Extraordinary communication, writing, researching, and speaking skills. You know how to find answers and communicate simply and convincingly. 
  • Event planning and hosting experience. You’ve put together successful strategic events and meetings, virtual and in person.
  • Strategic and detail-oriented skillset. You can work independently and focus on details yet fully embrace and articulate the big vision and organizational strategy. You can prioritize opportunities.
  • Social media confidence and savvy. You are a natural using technology and networking through social media.
  • Passion for and knowledge of the cause. You believe everyone has the right to a disaster-resilient home, and are familiar with the obstacles and opportunities for healthy, affordable, safe, equitable housing.
